February 2004I've not had much time for photography this month, but I did manage a last minute trip to Gigrin farm in mid Wales, 3½ hours travelling for about ½ hour of blue skies. But to see hundreds of red kites filling the air made it all worthwhile. I also managed a few decent pictures when the blue sky allowed.
These pictures will be on the website within a couple of weeks. I also took some buzzard pictures while I was there; they will be on the site with all the other updates within a few days.
I recommend a trip to Gigrin - it's a great day out.
I managed to get out to my local hides on the Somerset levels, which resulted in some respectable shots of wigeon, teal, lapwings, fieldfare and redwings.
I visited my little owl site a couple of times when times permitted, and that produced a few good images, one of which is on the website this month.
My plan at the moment is to visit the RSPB`s Arne reserve in Dorset. There is a large group of sika deer that occupy the area, which I have no pictures of; also the reserve overlooks Poole harbour, which holds a good selection of waterfowl.
Barn owls are becoming more widespread on the Somerset levels, and I know of 2 locations where they are roosting at the moment. I have not got many wild barn owl pictures, so this could be a good photo opportunity if they play ball ......
Loads of updates coming up, including a seal gallery!
